Why NTM
Why Nepal Travel Mate
Owner-led, locally staffed, and honest about the mountain. Here is what that means in practice.
Why Nepal Travel Mate ?
We’re a Kathmandu-based trekking and tour operator that plans, permits, and runs our own trips across Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan. Choosing a travel company is about more than booking a route. It’s about who plans your trip, who guides you on the trail, and who takes responsibility when conditions change.
These are some of the reasons travelers choose Nepal Travel Mate.
You book the operator, not a reseller
Nepal Travel Mate is owner-led. The trip you book is the trip we run, planned in our own office and guided by our own team. There is no middle layer between your booking and the trail because the same people who design your itinerary are responsible for delivering it on the ground.
The guide you book is the guide on the trail
When we confirm a guide, that is who travels with you. No last-minute substitutions because someone else happens to be available. Your guide knows the itinerary because our guides are involved in planning it from the start.
Licensed under Nepal Tourism Board regulations
Trained in wilderness first aid
A pulse oximeter is carried on every trek to monitor how your body is handling altitude
Safety built into the itinerary
Most altitude problems come from ascending too quickly. Our itineraries above 3,000 meters are intentionally conservative, with acclimatization days and altitude gains planned around how the body actually adapts.
Every trekker with us is required to carry insurance that covers helicopter evacuation. If something goes wrong at altitude, getting help quickly can make all the difference.
Fair to the people who carry the loads
A trek is only as strong as the team behind it, and that includes the porters.
Porter loads follow TAAN guidance
Porters are insured and properly equipped for the conditions
They stay in the same lodges as our trekkers
We pack out plastic, batteries, and metal waste rather than leaving it on the trail
We believe a trekking company should be judged by how it treats the people who make the trip possible.
Honest about difficulty and price
If a route is harder than you expect or your travel dates are unsuitable for the season, we’ll tell you. Our pricing reflects the real cost of running a trip properly, including fair pay for guides and porters. We don’t rely on hidden costs or last-minute add-ons.
Permits and logistics handled in-house
TIMS, ACAP, MCAP, national park permits, restricted-area permits, and the paperwork for travel into Tibet or Bhutan are arranged by our office before your trip begins. You don’t spend time chasing permits across Kathmandu. We take care of the logistics so you can focus on the journey.
Personalized itineraries
No two travelers are the same. We tailor each itinerary around your interests, travel style, fitness level, available time, and budget. Whether you’re looking for a challenging trek, a family holiday, a cultural tour, or a combined Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan journey, we build the trip around what suits you rather than asking you to fit into a standard package.
24/7 Support Available
Travel doesn’t always follow a schedule, and questions can come up at any time. From the moment you inquire until the day your trip ends, our team is available by phone, WhatsApp, and email whenever you need us. Whether you need help before your arrival, during your trek or tour, or while making changes to your plans, you’ll always have a direct way to reach us. We believe good support means being available when our travelers need us most, not just during office hours.
One team across Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan
Whether you’re trekking in the Himalaya, exploring Kathmandu Valley, visiting Chitwan, or traveling into Tibet or Bhutan, your trip is planned and coordinated by the same team from start to finish. You’re never handed off to another operator along the way.
